THE PAYMENT METHOD OF CHOICE FOR THE GLOBAL FESTIVAL COMMUNITY

What does the future look like? Next generation consumers are not buying goods and services, they are buying experiences and what's more, they are willing to pay a premium for them.  Research conducted this year by Barclaycard forecast that Brits will spend £1.2bn on-site at festivals across the UK this summer. OnBeat plans to capitalise on this growing trend and develop the world's first entertainment wallet.

  • OUR STORY

Founded in London in 2016 as MasterFestivalApp Ltd, OnBeat started life as a dating app for festival goers.

In 2017 OnBeat founder Andrew Grant met Jack Howell. Jack (who publishes DJ Magazine in Spain) was a partner in NightOn at the time (a web based events listing site which had recently launched a club focused mobile app called OnBeat). In 2018 after acquiring OnBeat Andrew asked his friend Craig Dewar (co-founder of Global Processing) how OnBeat could make money using payments. Craig was impressed by the ambition & vision and invested.

With that cash we built a prototype and ran a pilot for 1,500 people at a Barbados based festival called Vujaday in May 2019. The pilot was a disaster. The event organiser was too busy delivering the festival to populate our app with event data. That's when it struck us. Festivals are complex things with many moving parts, all typically organised using Whatsapp and Excel. All too often it's a small team doing a big job. We figured if we built a tool to manage the festival then our app could take that data and always have the most up-to-date and accurate information available for the customer.

In December 2019 OnBeat raised more cash and purchased Glownet, one of the market leaders for festival RFID / cashless payments. That year we also signed up Mighty Hoopla as our first event and Mastercard as our headline sponsor. In 2020 Covid-19 forced our plans on hold, but we have employed our time to assemble a team of experts to help us design, build, test and launch OnBeat - as the market leading festival management system.

OnBeat aims to launch the first weekend in June 2022 with Mighty Hoopla (after a below the radar live test with Vujaday Barbados in May). We plan to position; the business as a FinTech start-up, the consumer app as an entertainment wallet, and the enterprise platform as a zero cost tool to unlock new revenue streams for festival & event organisers. In 2022 we will focus on the UK. In 2023 we will launch across Europe adding 8 large scale Pride & LGBT events through our partnership with Mastercard and app sponsorship from their #AcceptanceMatters campaign. The business is focused on an exit event for shareholders in 2024 as we expand into the USA.
